Choosing an Arcade Stick
This section of the site is dedicated to selecting an arcade stick for home use.
Console controllers (such as the Wii Classic Controller or the DualShock) were engineered to support the vast array of genres released on consoles, and they do a fairly good job. However, they aren’t the best option for specific game genres. Racing games work better with a wheel, arcade shooting games work better with a light gun, and fighting games work better with arcade sticks.
Most fighting games were designed with the lever and buttons as the primary input method. Controllers emulate the functions of the lever and buttons decently (especially those with good d-pads and buttons layouts like the Sega Saturn controller and its variants), but some games require multiple button presses or complicated directional inputs that are hard to impossible to perform on a controller. Using the proper hardware is one of the first steps to getting serious about fighting games. Every die hard fighter enthusiast should own at least one arcade stick at home.
